Whenever most people look at why a site isn’t ranking well, the conclusion they come to most of the time is that the site just needs more links. While this might be the case in certain situations, one thing that people don’t often consider is whether there are currently enough links, but the current links don’t have enough power/trust. You can significantly improve your rankings by boosting the trust of your current link profile. Consider this, if you keep sending more and more low to medium quality links to a page, Google eventually won’t consider the page trustworthy because there aren’t any high trust links pointing to it. At a certain point, sending more and more links to a page can have a harmful effect.
What should you do then? The first thing is to take a full audit of your current backlink profile. Then you should compare your profile to that of the sites rankings head of your site. If you have very few links pointing to your site, then perhaps it would just be a matter of getting more links. If you already have a bunch of links pointing to your site, then you should consider boosting those links, rather than building entirely new links to the domain.
How should you go about boosting the trust and power of your current backlinks? I like to use social signals. If you can get a good number of social signals going to your links, then the trust of those links will naturally rise and you will probably see a jump in your rankings. Other than that, I like to use high domain authority properties and link to my links. Because the properties are high DA, they will pass good trust to your links and then to your site. I don’t like to use low-quality links ever, especially in this case.
If you aren’t ranking where you need to be, then this may be why. The answer isn’t always to just send more links. Sometimes it’s all about improving the quality of your current links.
