In SEO, the term “trust” gets thrown around all the time and it can mean very different things to different people. Then you’ll hear the term “Trust Flow,” which is a metric provided by Majestic SEO that evaluates that quality of the backlinks to a website. Some people talk about TrustRank, which is an indicator of how close a website is to handpicked seed sites (don’t worry about this definition). When I talk about trust in this article, I am talking about proving to Google that you are not a spammer. You are someone who is open to identifying yourself across the Internet. If you can get Google to trust that you are not someone who spams, you will see great results with your rankings.
Google wants to identify who the owner of a website is. The easiest way to do that is to create an About page and tell the world who you are. Most spam sites don’t do this, so when you create a nice About page, you are providing a signal to Google that you are not a spammer.
What you can do next is create a Google Plus profile. If the name of the Google Plus profile matches what you say on your About page, you are providing another signal of trust to Google.
From here, you should “hide in plain sight” with a lot of your link building. You should create profiles on the major social media sites and clearly identify who you are. What is really trustworthy is if you do things like creating a Quora account, where your name and information matches the information on your website. Google can see who you are and that you are adding value not just on your website but across the Internet as well. You can do the same thing on Reddit and other similar sites. Depending on your niche, you can comment on relevant blogs and tie the comment into your Gravatar profile or otherwise clearly indicate who you are. Doing this shows again that you are adding value and being active in your industry. You are adding links to your site, but you aren’t doing anything sketchy or hiding anything.
To me, this concept is the future of SEO. Google wants to know who you are, and they will see whether you are adding value, not just on your website but also on other properties across the web. If you can follow this concept, you will definitely see an increase in your rankings.
