There are a lot of reasons why your website needs an active blog. We normally focus on the SEO reasons, but there are additional business reasons that I’ll discuss here as well. This applies to really any business, whether you are a dentist, lawyer, small business owner, or anything else. The evidence/reasons are so overwhelming that I just don’t see any reason why your website wouldn’t benefit from having a blog that is regularly updated.
#1- Google Likes A High Frequency Of Publish
Google does not like stale websites. They want to see a site that regularly publishes new content. It gives them a reason to come back to the site and it really increases trust in their eyes. A lot of SEOs will make a 5 page site and then never touch the site again. As a result, Google wants to punish those webmasters that “set and forget” their sites. Publishing regular content on your site tells Google that you really care about the site and you would like to be considered an authority on you main topic.
#2- You Will Increase The Number Of Indexed Pages On Your Main Topic
Google needs help in establishing the themes of your website in order to rank your site appropriately. Simply adding more content and having more indexed pages on your main topic will boost your search engine rankings because you are helping Google establish better the main themes of your site.
Consider these two websites: one dentist website that has 5 total pages versus one that has 50 pages, all about dentistry. Holding everything else constant, which website do you think Google will like best as the authority site on dentistry? The second website wins any day of the week.
#3- You Will Boost Your Domain Authority
Domain authority is one of, if not the most important ranking factors for websites right now. Having an active blog is a great way to ensure that you can boost your domain authority over time as much as possible. You can leverage the power of RSS feeds, social signals, and other syndication sources to give a lot of “love” to each of your blog posts. In return, that “love” will accumulate with each new blog post and your domain authority will slowly grow.
Domain authority is a complex calculation but essentially it is an accumulation of the authority of the individual pages on your site. If you only have a few pages on your site, your domain authority will have a lot of trouble growing. If you keep expanding your site, your domain authority will grow much more quickly.
#4- You Will Get More Traffic
The goal for most websites is simply to get more traffic. If you do things right, your blog posts will start to rank for long-tail searches on Google and you will start to get more traffic. That additional traffic could easily mean more business for you. Getting more traffic will also increase the trust flow of your site overall. Just another reason why you need to blog regularly.
#5- People Will Trust You More
The main reason why you need to blog regularly is that people who find you online will trust you more. Who would you trust more, a website with 4 total pages or a website that is constantly refreshed with new information? Of course the second website is more trustworthy.
Your blog gives you the ability to showcase that you are the authority on your subject. If you are a lawyer, you can write intelligently on the latest happenings in your field, provide case studies of how you did a great job for your clients, etc. The blog is just another way to establish trust with your prospective customers.
Hopefully this article has convinced you that having a blog that is regularly updated can bring you a lot of benefits, from an SEO and business perspective. It’s not hard to implement a blog, so if you don’t currently have one, I would strongly suggest taking action and starting one.
