NYC is an incredible place to do business. At the same time, it is unbelievably competitive. If you are running a restaurant in Manhattan, sometimes having great food isn’t enough to keep you in business. Ultimately, I feel that it always comes down to marketing who wins the NYC rat race and who doesn’t. How do you stand out from the crowd in New York City? Well, here are some thoughts on what you can do.
SEO– We are an Internet marketing firm here. If you are a plumber and want to get your phone to ring, there might not be anything better than doing SEO well. SEO simply means showing up highly in the Google search results when people type in things like “plumber NYC.” If you can do that, you will get a lot of visitors to your website and hopefully then you will get a lot of phone calls and interested potential customers. What is the problem with SEO in a place like New York? The major issue is that it is very competitive, as almost everyone would love to be at the top of Google. You have to find a way to stand out from the crowd. I would suggest being willing to spend a good bit of money to hire a top-quality SEO firm (like ours!). That way you will ensure that you are putting yourself on the best path to success.
Referrals– Referrals can make or break you. There are so many networking events in NYC that it’s not even funny. You could join a group like BNI or attend your local Chamber Of Commerce events. There are plenty of people in the city that would be willing to help you out and/or provide you a referral. I would suggest attending as many of these types of events as possible. You want to have an army of people on your side that are willing to help you out. That’s how you can win in this city.
These are my two top suggestions. NYC is a challenging place. Marketing is ultimately what is going to make or break you. Make sure you do everything you can to do it well.
